August 2008 Events for Las Vegas
Click here for September 2008 Vegas Events
Although August visitor counts are only a bit above average, there are 2 very large conventions and the start of the 3 day Labor Day Weekend. If you like crowds, then you should time your visit to hit one of these events and if you want lower room rates and less crowds you should try to avoid them. We think we are the only website that estimates event and convention attendance including smaller conventions which can bunch up and add up to decent numbers. Please see the graph at the bottom.
We have increased our estimates for attendance given some aggressive deals that the hotels are luring customers with that include room rate cuts and freebies. The price of gasoline may have a plateau and there have been no very recent announcements of airline cutbacks. Although we think the 3 day holidays are probably going to be down from last year, there are no major disasters for Vegas visitor counts.
August is unusually low in major sporting events such as UFC and boxing which can also fatten up the daily visitor numbers. Also, although the Star Trek convention will beam down again to Las Vegas, the Star Trek exhibit at the Hilton is on its last mission so if you would like to do both at the same time, now is your last chance.
You should always try to get comped tickets if you gamble or pay regular box office prices. However, if you don't mind paying a premium for very good seats, TicketsNow which usually has one of the largest inventories. Their website can be a bit difficult to use. Just choose Las Vegas and then search for an event you would like to see. Don't go to this site if you are strictly a discount ticket buyer, however.
