Las Vegas Conventions and Events—December 2007

December is the only month that averages just under 100,000 total visitors a day.  The number of conventions is similar to the August low point but the convention size is much smaller making December the lowest convention attendance month of the year.  In 2006, Las Vegas averaged 525,663 convention attendees per month with December at 161,809.

Vegas will be a busy sports town with the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) from the 6th to the 15th and the Las Vegas Bowl is already sold out on the 22nd.  Full capacity at Sam Boyd Stadium is 40,000 but we are predicting 44,615 Las Vegas Bowl attendance.

Although not a major event, the Las Vegas Marathon should see at least 6,000 attendees if not 10,000.  Undefeated Floyd Mayweather goes up against undefeated Welterweight Ricky Hatton on the 8th.  UFC 79 on 12/29 should be an easy sell-out.

Balcony seats are all that are left to the NFR.  Mayweather is a tremendous boxer but Hatton’s hold and punch style is not as charismatic as De La Hoya’s so you might still get tickets.  UFC sells out in Vegas.

On December 20th, Palazzo at the Venetian opens adding about 3,025 hotel rooms to the Vegas count.  Vegas Made Easy.com has a totally unsubstantiated guess that the grand opening could bring in 5,000 people but expect the actual number to differ substantially.

New Year’s Eve should be a monster celebration with activities planned throughout the city.  Attendance has been over 300,000 recently making this about as big a visitor draw as Superbowl weekend.
